Lawmakers say oil executives have some explaining to do. And what’s the happiest country in the world?
What a week for the markets. The Dow, Nasdaq and S&P 500 continued climbing today… finishing off their best week in almost a year and a half. Since November 2020.
The Dow gained 274 to close at 34,754
The Nasdaq was up 279
The S&P gained 51.
The Fed just raised rates by a quarter percent. But a *half-percentage point rate hike might be next. The Federal Reserve Governor says it could be required to help tame what he calls “raging inflation.”
Congress wants to hear from the CEOs of big oil. With gas prices skyrocketing, oil executives will have to defend their actions. Some lawmakers claim the gasoline industry is *not passing the benefits of record profits onto consumers.
And for the 5th year in a row… Finland is the world’s happiest country. The “world happiness report” looks at money, social support, and how citizens gauge their freedom. Two through five on the list: Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland and The Netherlands. The United States came in 16th.
