Healthy jobs report, Amazon workers unionize 4/1/22

A healthy jobs report to start the month. And your new car will soon get a lot better gas mileage.
A healthy finish the week on Wall Street. But oil futures suffered their biggest weekly decline in almost two years.

The Dow gained 140 points to close at 34,818
The Nasdaq jumped 41
The S&P 500 gained 15
Oil is at $99 / barrel.

Even with worries over slowing growth, the economy added 431,000 jobs in March. Leisure and hospitality led the gains. February was revised higher to 750,000 jobs. The unemployment rate drops now to 3.6%.

Amazon workers at a warehouse in New York City have voted to unionize. It’s a first for workers at the e-commerce giant. Amazon says it’s disappointed with the outcome of the election. Workers at that facility have been trying to unionize for nearly two years.

New vehicles sold in the U.S. will have to average at least 40 miles per gallon starting in 2026. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the requirements are the strongest to date, and will reduce gasoline consumption by 220-billion gallons over the life of vehicles.
