“Pen Pal Prison Letters From a Free Spirit” is a collection of letters sent to author Paul Alan Smith from his friend on “slow death row” Tiyo Attallah Salah-El. A man who received several degrees, worked on justice reform and taught music lessons. All from behind bars. Tiyo’s letters describe the problems faced by those incarcerated as well as divulging his own personal struggles. The audio book is narrated by actor/director Carl Weathers. Weathers tells Carlos Amezcua about how he found the letters “soulful”.
